Sharp recently announced it plans to start mass production of what the company calls the smallest one-segment digital terrestrial broadcasting tuner module for mobile devices by the end of January 2007. Compared with previous one-segment modules, Sharp's new module is 20% smaller and consumes 17% less power, thereby enabling more compact one-segment mobile phone models and longer viewing hours. Sharp's monthly output of the new module is estimated at one million units.
